Collapsed 7-Storey Building In Banana Island Was Unapproved – Lagos Govt.
The Lagos state government has said that the seven storey building under construction, on First Avenue, in the Banana Island area of Ikoyi, Lagos State which collapsed on Wednesday, was unapproved.
The Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, in a statement posted on its verified Facebook page minutes after the collapse, denied giving construction approval to the owners of the building which collapsed at about 4:58pm trapping workers. READ MORE HERE
A statement signed by the ministry’s Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Mukaila Sanusi, said no fatality was recorded and those on site who sustained injuries are being treated.
The ministry assured that it will investigate the cause of the building collapse and called on the public to remain calm.
The statement read;
“An unapproved seven-floor building under construction has collapsed in Banana Island, Lagos State, this evening.
“Few who sustained injuries are being treated. There is no fatality. This unfortunate incident happened while casting was being done.
“The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tayo Bamgbose-Martins, was immediately on site to assess the situation and flag off the investigation. We ask members of the public to remain calm and expect further information from the ministry as we know more.”
