JUST IN: Court Orders FG To Return Nnamdi Kanu To Kenya, Compensate Him

Justice Evelyn. N Anyadike of the Federal High Court in Umuahia, Abia State, has ruled that the Federal Government of Nigeria should return Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to Kenya where he was illegally extradited from.

The court in it’s ruling on Wednesday, October 26, maintained that the Federal Government violated the fundamental human right of Kanu by not following the legal process of extradition, while ordering the Federal Government to pay Nnamdi Kanu, the sum of N500 million as damages.

The court held that the Federal government failed to disprove the claims of Kanu that he was arrested, blindfolded, tort-ured, and chained to the ground for eight days in Kenya before his extradition to Nigeria.

Recall that Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, special counsel to Nnamdi Kanu had approached the court seeking for the June 19, 2021 extradition of his client to be declared illegal among other pleas. READ HERE

The court’s judgement comes barely two weeks after a court of appeal in Abuja discharged Kanu, ordering the Federal government to release him.
