ABIA 2023: We Have Not Endorsed Anybody – Ohuhu Council Of Traditional Rulers Refutes Claims
The Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers have described the reports peddled in some section of the media that they have endorsed a candidate ahead of the 2023 elections in Abia state, as fake news.
The traditional rulers in a press briefing on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, stated that they were misquoted in a report saying that they endorsed Honourable Onyedi OKwulehie, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Umuahia North State constituency in the forthcoming 2023 Abia State House of Assembly election.
The monarchs who briefed the media at the office of Eze K.A.N. Emekaobum of Umuokwenu Okpu Isingwu, maintained that they did not endorse any State House of Assembly candidate nor a governorship candidate neither did they state that any candidate has paid his or her dues.
Speaking on behalf of the monarchs, His Royal Majesty, Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, the chairman, Ohuhu Traditional Council of rulers and also chairman, Ikwuano/Umuahia Supreme Council of traditional rulers stated that it is their duty as royal fathers to welcome and bless any candidate who deem it fit to inform them of his political ambition.
“We received Onyedi as our beloved worthy son because he came to us. We have not endorsed anybody. They have not paid any dues; we don’t take dues; a man who comes to meet his father comes with kola”.
“Our own is to bless them; we don’t endorse anybody” Ofoegbu said.
The monarchs restated their position that candidates should come, tell the people their agenda for them, go to the field, contest and one candidate will emerge winner. They charged politicians to desist from making statements that can incite the public.
The monarchs also appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for counting some of their colleagues, sons and daughters worthy of receiving national honours.
