A 2023 gubernatorial aspirant, Etigwe Uwa, SAN, has called on Abians to rise up and ensure that the era of unnecessary enrichment by individuals using public resources becomes a thing of the past.

The governorship hopeful who visited the State Working Committee (SWC), of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), on Wednesday, April 20, assured Abians that the long awaited restoration and redemption of Abia State, is at hand.

Uwa met the State Working Committee (SWC) to officially inform them that he has purchased and submitted his nomination and expression of interest form ahead of the 2023 governorship election.

Etigwe Uwa adduced that Abians need to project into the future so as not to disappoint the younger generation in the next 10 years. He warned that the state cannot change for the better if the people fail to make it a better place.

Uwa assured that Abia has natural resources including dirt especially in Aba, which can be utilized to transform the state and generate revenue.

“the era has come when governance in Abia should have the motto; ‘not for the governor but for the governed. Not for the excos but for those that have sent them to serve; until that point, we will still be wallowing in the mud and we will wallow there for a long time.

“this state is a rich state; the potentials in this state are so much. With due respect to those who have run it, a lot much more can be done, a lot much more can be achieved. Abia is not going to progress until each and every one of us catch the fire and say, our place must be a better place and we are willing to make that sacrifice that is necessary to ensure that our place is a better place” Uwa charged.

He added;

“I do not aspire to be a good politician, I aspire to be a statesman, I aspire to be somebody who will work with our leaders, members of the party and people who has a burden for the state”.

“if Abia fails, you and I are responsible. If you don’t catch that fire today, to do something about the land of your birth, then shame, because all other lands that have succeeded, God did not come down to perform a miracle, it was the people who determined to do something for their place to be a better place”.

The governorship aspirant maintained that Aba the commercial city of the state can be converted to a multi-billion dollars generating site.

“we can convert this state into a renewable energy capital of West Africa. We can earn more money than oil producing states” Uwa assured.

He advised Abians not to eat a seed that will not bring a better tomorrow, adding that “Abia is not a monarchy, nobody has the right to choose a successor for us”

Responding, APGA state chairman, Rev. Augustine Ehiemere described the Senior Advocate as a good product, worthy to represent the people, appreciating him for choosing APGA to fulfil his aspiration.

Ehiemere noted that the PDP and APC does not have the solution to the problems of Abia and Nigeria entirely, except APGA.

“APC has no solution to Abia problems, APC has no solution to Nigeria’s problem; APC has no solution to south eastern problem it is only APGA that has the solution. If you are in doubt, go to Anambra and see; it is because of the Igbo ideology”.

The chairman certified that Uwa can go ahead to reach out to the grass root, having done the needful at the state level.

“as you have come here, we are now aware and you are free to go to the grass root because APGA is a decent party that doesn’t operate with occultism nor god fatherism”

According to Ehiemere, Abia has not developed like Anambra which is not an oil producing state, because Abians left governance in the hands of those who are only interested in looting public funds.

“here in Abia, we left governance in the hands of charlatans, whose only interest is to share our common wealth” Ehiemere stated.

He assured all aspirants under APGA that there is no anointed candidate, adding that the primaries will be free and fair.
