Stakeholders of Ikwuano/Umuahia, led by a former Deputy Chief of Staff to Abia State Governor, Chief Charles Ogbonna, have revealed their stand on the 2023 Abia governorship position.
The stakeholders held a meeting on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 where they deliberated on the political situation in the state.
They revealed that Ikwuano/Umuahia has no intention of going against an agreement they had with the people of Isiala Ngwa North, South and Osisioma on the governorship and senatorial seats zoning.
According to them, it is the turn of Ngwa people to produce the next senator while Abia North will produce the next governor in 2023
“…after deliberations and appraisals of the political situation in Abia state agreed and state as follows: That Ikwuano/Umuahia has a long standing agreement with our brothers of Isiala Ngwa North, South and Osisioma whereby the senate seat is zoned.
We the Ikwuano/Umuahia do not intend to go against this agreement hence it is the turn of Umunna Ngwa to produce the next Senator. Ikwuano/Umuahia note and agreed that the next Governor of Abia state should come from Abia north senatorial district but if for the reason that the Governorship having gone round the three Senatorial districts, Ikwuano/Umuahia agreed that the contest must be made open excluding Abia South Senatorial district” the communiqué read in part.
