The Executive governor of Abia state, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has called for calm from all involved in the crisis rocking Owaza community in Ukwa West Local Government Area of the state.
Following the alleged killing of a soldier in the community by yet to be identified persons, the military were said to have gone on a reprisal attack, burning down properties, and sacking community members.
The governor calling for calm, urged the people to give peace a chance and allow his government thinker solution to the problem.
Ikpeazu also tasks the soldiers to show a high level of patriotism and not allow the situation to degenerate any further, as the State Government continues to engage the leadership of the Army on the issue.
A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Onyebuchi Ememanka said the following leaders from Ukwa West LGA are invited to a crucial meeting with the governor on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the Governor’s Lodge, by 3pm.
- Member representing Ukwa West at the State House of Assembly
- The Executive Chairman of Ukwa West LGA
- All serving State political appointees from Ukwa West LGA
- All Traditional Rulers from Ukwa West LGA
- The President – General of the Asa Improvement Union
- The Leader, Ukwa West Legislative Council
- The Leader of the Asa Improvement Union, Youth Wing.
- The Chief of Staff to the Governor
- The Honorable Commissioner for Homeland Security.
All invitees to the meeting should be seated before the arrival of the Governor.
