State Of Emergency: Malami Has Confirmed That Insecurity In Anambra Is Politically Motivated – Govt Reveals More

The Anambra State Government has reacted to the Federal Government’s threat to declare a state of emergency in the state, amid the recent spate of insecurity.

Don Adinuba, the state’s Commissioner for Information, said the remark by the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami, confirmed that the killings in the state were politically motivated.

Recall that Malami had said the Federal Government might declare a state of emergency in Anambra State, ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

Malami had disclosed this while addressing State House correspondents after yesterday’s Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting.

Reacting, Adinuba insisted that the recent disturbances in the state do not warrant declaring a state of emergency.

Speaking on Channels Television, the commissioner said the Attorney General’s remark was borne out of politics.

The commissioner wondered why the Federal Government had not declared a state of emergency in northern states plagued by insecurity.

He said: “Since the renewed violence in Anambra State, which we believe is politically motivated, not more than 15 persons have been killed.

“How many persons have died in Borno, Niger, Kaduna, Yobe, Zamfara? Even Imo, which is APC-controlled, and Ebonyi, [also] APC-controlled, has anybody threatened emergency rule in any of these states?

“For the past seven years, Anambra state has remained the safest state, most stable in Nigeria.

“What is going on here is politically motivated and the declaration by the Attorney-General of the Federation is a confirmation.

“I don’t want us to live in denial. What prompted the Attorney-General of the Federation to make that declaration is pure politics. There is no point being in denial.”
