The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), has called off its age long strike action after nearly two months.

NARD had in August, embarked on a strike action protesting following a disagreement with the Federal Government over issues including salary payment, hazard allowances, among others.

An industrial court had ordered the doctors to call off the strike action and resume duty after the Federal government filed a suit against them. However, NARD remained adamant.

In a statement issued by the NARD president, Godiya Ishaya, the decision to call of the strike action was reached after a meeting with the delegates of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and NARD on Sunday.

According to Ishaya, the NMA mandated the National Officers Committee (NOC), to ensure the implementation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU),signed with the federal government on August 21.

The association also asked NOC to report back to the National Executive Council of NMA periodically on the progress being made on implementing the MoU.

Ishaya revealed that the resident doctors will resume duty on Wednesday, October 6, 2021.

“We’ve officially suspended the strike to resume at 8:00 am on Wednesday. We made the decision in the wee hours of today.

”We held an emergency meeting from 5:30 pm on Sunday to the morning hours of today, and the NEC decided that having reviewed the progress made so far, the strike should be suspended.”
