PHOTOS: Abia Poly Students Protest Alleged R-ape Of 3 Students By Security Personnel, Others

Students of Abia State Polytechnic took to the streets on Thursday, September 23 to protest the alleged r-ape of 3 students of the institution by personnel of Rapid Response Squad.

The aggrieved students halted all academic activities to match round, blocking the Aba /Owerri road axis of the school. The students who had placards with various inscriptions were also protesting non- accreditation of Engineering department in the school.

Other grievances of the students who trooped out in their numbers include non payment of staff salaries which has stalled their semester examination earlier scheduled to commence today

Some of the inscriptions on the students’ placards include; “Say no to Rape”, Sell this School and give us our money back”.

Speaking to newsmen, a student of Civil Engineering explained that the school management has failed to accredit the entire Engineering department, adding that after their finals, they are issued a result bearing that of Department of Building.

He called on the State Government and the School Management to expedite action so as to enable them graduate with results bearing Civil Engineering.

On the alleged r-ape by Personnel of Rapid Response Squad , an Accounting undergraduate who pleaded anonymity,  stated that three students living at an undisclosed lodge around Aba North, were badly ra-ped and taken to hospital, adding that such incident has been happening.

Addressing the Students in the company of armed military Personnel, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Professor Kalu Osonwa, said he received messages that men of the Rapid Response Squad were assaulting the students.

He promised that as a father and Rector of the Institution, he will ensure that no student is s-exually harassed no matter the individual involved just as he assured that the school management will look into the issues raised including accreditation of the Engineering Department among others.
