Leaning on the call by the United Nation for the unconditional release of the IPOB leader, Onuoha stated that it was long overdue, adding that he is one of the few individuals who has been on the forefront for the release of Kanu.
He noted that Kanu is only calling for a referendum which is never a crime and questioned why he would be detained by the federal government since there has never been any indictment of him carrying guns or been found to be violent in his demands.
According to him, the country is in a state of high tension and that was why he was among the delegation that visited president Buhari to seek for a peaceful resolution of the continued agitation and detention of Kanu.
“The reason why myself and Papa Mbazulike Amaechi went to the president was because of the high tension in the land which most of our leaders kept mute about. We decided that the best thing to do was to meet the president and make a demand which was very simple, because we have a legal and political solution to it”
However, Onuoha regretted that up until now, the president has played a deaf ear to it but assured that he is committed to the course to make sure that the IPOB leader is released.
