A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has re-elected Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary during its elective national convention held in Abuja.
The duo emerged by consensus at the convention which took place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Sunday, where members of the faction gathered to affirm the party’s national leadership and other officials.
During the convention, several other national officers were also affirmed into various positions within the party structure. Those affirmed include Aaron Chukwuemeka as Deputy National Chairman (South), Yusufu Nya Akirikwen (SAN) as Deputy National Chairman (North), Kolawale Olabisi as Deputy National Secretary, Odeyemei Mackson Oladiran as National Treasurer, and Lado Dan Marke as Deputy National Treasurer.
Also listed among the affirmed officers are Eyim Donatus Henry, Dr. Grema Kyari, Umar Mohammed Bature, Efere Augustine, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, Egwu Goodluck Chidiebere, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), Barrister Aloysius Chinemelu U. Uba, Osuoha Okechukwu Donatus, Dr. Adaba Yatu, Ibrahim Bala Aboki, and Momoh Dejih Eugene Bashir.
Professor Ogunshe Adedayo was affirmed as National Women Leader, while Hauwa Ahmed Shinge emerged as Deputy National Women Leader.
The convention and affirmation of the party leadership are seen as part of ongoing efforts by different blocs within the party to consolidate their structures ahead of future political activities and elections.
Political observers say the development shows that various power blocs within the party are continuing to strengthen their structures across the country.
