Former Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, and other members of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) alumni association have expressed overwhelming admiration for the ongoing infrastructural revolution under the leadership of Dr. Alex C. Otti, the Executive Governor of Abia State.
The delegation, consisting of Governor Otti’s year mates who graduated between 1980 and 1989, was in Abia for a special reunion event and seized the opportunity to inspect several road projects currently underway or completed across the state.
Speaking after touring the newly reconstructed Port Harcourt Road in Aba, Mr. Amaechi, visibly impressed, declared that the transformation was unbelievable. “The last time I was here, this road was an eyesore, littered with refuse and gaping gullies. What I see now is incredible. We must congratulate Governor Otti,” he said.
He added that the Port Harcourt Road, which had been in a deplorable state for decades, has now become a symbol of purposeful leadership. He particularly noted the quality of work being delivered by Julius Berger and other reputable construction companies engaged by the Abia State Government.
The former Minister of Transportation questioned the secret behind Governor Otti’s ability to fund such capital-intensive projects in a state previously plagued by financial mismanagement. “We know small states complain about funds. But look at this – Alex must tell us how he’s getting money to do all these,” Amaechi quipped.
The tour also covered critical infrastructure sites such as the Omenuko Bridge, Library Avenue (Bank Road), Aguiyi Ironsi Boulevard, and the Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Akara-Abiriba-Ohafia Road (sections 1, 2 & 3). The delegation was accompanied by the Mayor of Isuikwuato, Mr. Chinedu Ekeke, and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Engr. Izuchukwu Onwughara.
In each community visited, jubilant Abians trooped out in celebration, chanting solidarity songs and praising Governor Otti for delivering on promises that had been abandoned for decades.
A retired Nigerian diplomat, Hon. Ernest Rowland Douglas, alongside other UNIPORT alumni members including Dr. Chidi Ulelu and Mr. Duke Odinde, commended Governor Otti’s integrity, vision, and grassroots impact, describing him as “a homeboy doing us proud.”
They affirmed their collective support for Governor Otti’s administration, urging Abians to back his second term bid for continuity of good governance and sustainable development.
On his part, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, explained that the secret to the administration’s success lies in fiscal discipline, transparency, zero-tolerance for corruption, and visionary leadership.
“What we are seeing is the result of prudent management, integrity, and a genuine desire to rebuild Abia. Other governors should take a cue from Otti’s style of leadership,” he added.
As support grows from peers and the public, Governor Alex Otti’s transformation agenda continues to earn him national and international recognition as one of the most impactful leaders in Nigeria today.
