Why Governor Francis Nwifuru dissolved community leadership and sacked top appointees after renewed violence in Ebonyi State. Read full details on All Facts Newspaper.

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has taken far-reaching and unprecedented actions following renewed violence linked to a long-standing boundary dispute between communities in the state.

The governor announced the immediate sack of all government appointees from Amasiri community in Afikpo Local Government Area, alongside the dissolution of the entire community leadership structure, after reports of deadly attacks on residents of Okporojo village in Oso Edda community, Edda Local Government Area.

Those affected by the sweeping decision include the State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Amari Omaka, management committee members, traditional rulers, town union executives, and village heads from Amasiri community.

Governor Nwifuru made the announcement during an on-the-spot assessment visit to Okporojo village, where he expressed shock over the destruction of homes, displacement of residents, and loss of lives linked to the renewed communal unrest.

Describing the incident as a tragic escalation of a protracted boundary dispute, the governor lamented that previous reconciliation efforts had collapsed due to what he termed a lack of genuine commitment to peace by the affected parties.

As part of decisive measures to prevent further violence, Governor Nwifuru ordered the dissolution of the Amasiri Development Union executive, withdrew the certificate of recognition of the traditional ruler of Amasiri, and removed all village heads across Amasiri autonomous communities.

Addressing grieving residents, the governor urged calm and restraint, assuring them of the state government’s commitment to restoring lasting peace and rebuilding affected communities.

“What you need immediately is not just support, but permanent peace, and that peace will definitely come,” he assured.

Governor Nwifuru expressed deep concern over the visible signs of neglect and insecurity in the area, noting that the destruction of homes and poor living conditions reflected years of unresolved conflict. He pledged to personally return within one year to assess measurable improvements in security and development.

He also commended security agencies—including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other formations—for their efforts in pursuing those responsible for the violence, noting that operatives traversed difficult terrain to ensure safety in the region.

While stressing that his administration does not take sides in communal disputes, the governor warned that violence would only deepen hardship and isolation for any community involved.

“Violence will never lead anyone anywhere. It is only the truth that can bring peace,” Nwifuru stated, urging community leaders to reflect deeply on their actions.

He reaffirmed that his government would continue to act firmly in the interest of peace, security, and accountability across Ebonyi State.
