The Kano State Government has initiated new legal proceedings against former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, accusing him of financial misconduct and abuse of office. Discover the details and implications of these fresh charges.

The Kano State Government has filed new charges against the former governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, accusing him of criminal conspiracy and misappropriation of public funds. This fresh legal action is part of ongoing efforts by the Kano State Anti-Corruption and Public Complaints Commission to address allegations of financial misconduct during Ganduje’s tenure.

According to the charge sheet, case No. K/143c/24, Ganduje and the former Commissioner for Justice, Musa Lawan, face accusations of violating Sections 308 and 309 of the Penal Code, with additional charges under Sections 97 and 315. The charges stem from alleged abuse of office and misappropriation of funds intended for public use.

Muhuyi Magaji, Chairman of the Kano State Anti-Corruption Commission, disclosed that investigations revealed the diversion of N51.3 billion from local government funds to unauthorized individuals. This includes an illegal monthly withdrawal of N1 billion from the state’s coffers, allegedly for road renovations but instead funneled to Bureau de Change operators. Another significant allegation involves the transfer of N4 billion from the state’s consolidated revenue account to an agricultural company without justification.

The state government plans to present four witnesses in the case, aiming to substantiate the charges against Ganduje and Lawan. No date has been set for their arraignment, but the government is determined to proceed with the legal process to ensure accountability.

This development underscores the Kano State Government’s commitment to tackling corruption and enhancing governance transparency. The outcome of this case could have far-reaching implications for public trust and the state’s political landscape.
