Kaduna Governor Uba Sani has defended the peace pact with terrorists, emphasizing that saving lives and ensuring peace are his administration’s priorities. Approximately 200 captives were released as part of the agreement, with no ransom paid.
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has justified his administration’s decision to enter into a peace agreement with terrorists, explaining that his primary focus is safeguarding lives and restoring peace across the state.
Governor Sani disclosed this during an interview with BBC Hausa Service, addressing criticisms surrounding the initiative. He emphasized that the peace accord was a result of six months of negotiations facilitated by traditional and religious leaders.
Defending the peace pact, Governor Uba Sani stated, “If even one person were to be killed in Kaduna, it’s better for me to have the peace pact. Otherwise, Almighty Allah will hold me accountable because I took an oath.”
He reassured the public that no financial incentives were provided to the terrorists during the negotiations, saying, “Not even one Naira was given to them. This agreement was reached purely through dialogue and mutual understanding.”
One of the conditions for the agreement, according to the governor, was the unconditional release of individuals held hostage by the terrorists. Governor Sani revealed that approximately 200 captives were freed as a direct result of the peace talks.
“They released the people to us. Now, business and farming activities are flourishing in our communities. That’s why I am assuring the communities that we will continue to pray and sustain the relief achieved,” Uba Sani stated.
Governor Uba Sani commended the role of traditional rulers and religious leaders in facilitating the discussions. Their contributions, he noted, were instrumental in ensuring the success of the six-month-long negotiation process.
Governor Sani expressed optimism that the peace pact would hold, citing tangible improvements in the state, including increased economic activities and a more peaceful environment.
While the initiative has been met with mixed reactions, the governor maintained that the safety and well-being of Kaduna residents remain his administration’s top priority. He assured citizens of his commitment to maintaining peace and fostering development in the state.
