Former Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has called on PDP members to remain loyal despite recent defections. Speaking in Umuobiakwa, he expressed confidence in the party’s comeback in 2027, urging unity and support for the new leadership.
Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urging party members to stay loyal and dedicated despite the current political turbulence. Ikpeazu made this call during a strategic meeting with PDP faithful from Abia South held at his Umuobiakwa country home.
Addressing the wave of defections that hit the PDP following its loss to the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Ikpeazu maintained that abandoning the party in tough times is not the solution. Instead, he encouraged members, especially in his Obingwa stronghold, to remain focused, resilient, and optimistic about the party’s future.
“Defections are not the end of the road for any political party. PDP has faced storms before and emerged stronger. What we need now is unity, loyalty, and hard work. I will not leave the PDP because it is the platform that shaped my political journey,” Ikpeazu stated firmly.
He acknowledged the challenges facing the party but assured members that better days lie ahead. According to him, those who remain steadfast will reap the rewards when the PDP regains its political dominance in Abia and beyond.
Ikpeazu also applauded the new leadership of the Abia State PDP Working Committee led by Abraham Amah, expressing confidence in their ability to reposition the party for victory in 2027. He described Amah as a leader with the vision and capacity to restore PDP’s glory in the state.
The former governor’s remarks come at a critical time for the PDP, as the party grapples with internal divisions, leadership crises, and mass defections following its electoral defeat. However, Ikpeazu’s message of hope and resilience aims to rekindle the fighting spirit within the party as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
