Why I Secured Only Two Votes At PDP Primary- Senator Shehu Sani

As results from fierce primaries across political parties churn out, former Federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani has explained why he secured only two votes in the race for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket for Kaduna State.

Exonerating himself from blames, the human rights activist attributed his loss to a ”market bidding system or auction” in the party.

Prior the May 25th Gubernatorial primary, the politician had taken to his space on Facebook to insist against paying ”delegates” for votes, condemning the system.

He wrote;

‘We are going to the Governorship primaries today. My position is clear;I will NOT pay delegates to vote for me. I don’t believe this is the path our society should continue to thread.Our problems can never be solved by leaders who emerged through a market bidding system or auction.

Whether I record any vote or zero votes I’m ok.Our society criminalised ransom payment but embraces payment system for its leadership.

I welcome the Delegates to Kaduna.”

The outcome of May 25th election saw the 54-year-old lose to Isa Ashiru, a former member of the House of Representatives.

In a tweet on his Twitter handle, Sani shared the outcome of the primary and congratulated the winner. Seemingly taking a swipe at the party, the author appreciated the ”two delegates” who gave him ”clean votes”.

“The Kaduna PDP Governorship primaries has been concluded. I lost and Honourable Isah Ashiru won. I wish to congratulate him. Two Delegates voted for me without giving them a dime; unfortunately, I don’t know who they are, so that I can appreciate these clean votes. We look forward.”
