One Rahama Sulaiman (25), has been arrested by operatives of the Kano State Police Command, for kidnapping her 6 years old daughter Hafsat Kabiru and demanding N3 million from her once divorced husband.
Parading Sulaiman alongside other suspects arrested for various crimes on Thursday, the Kano State police Commissioner, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel said one Kabiru Shehu of Sharada Quarters, Kano Municipal Local Government had on May 8, reported that his 25 years old wife, Rahma Sulaiman called and informed him that his six-year-old daughter was kidnapped.
He quoted his wife as saying that unknown persons called her demanding for three million naira ransom.
“In a follow-up investigation, the victim was rescued in Madobi LGA and the wife, who was earlier divorced by the husband, confessed to having planned the kidnapping of her daughter” the Commissioner said.
The woman allegedly took the daughter to a nearby relative in Madobi to keep for her saying that she would travel for four days.
Speaking to newsmen during the parade, the suspect said her husband did not give her money to feed the children for over 10 months which prompted her to fake her daughter’s kidnap to get money for the children’s upkeep.
“I called him and told him that our daughter was missing and we went to the police together and reported the matter. Inside the police station, I gave him the number of the guy that will receive the ransom,” she said.
She said she regretted her actions and announced that she had reconciled with her husband.
The husband who confirmed that they had reconciled, added that his wife had never done such before.
The suspects will all be charged to court after investigation according to the police.
