…. “I’m not Jesus Christ to bear the sins of a broken party” – Ememanka says as he exits PDP in frustration
Sir Onyebuchi Ememanka, the former Chief Press Secretary to ex-Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, has officially resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing mass exodus, internal collapse, and lack of direction as key reasons behind his decision. In a detailed and emotional statement obtained by All Facts Newspaper, Ememanka made it clear that his exit was long overdue and that the party has failed its members and its legacy.
According to Ememanka, the letter of resignation was submitted to his ward chairman, Chief Chiemela Ufomba of Amasato Ward 3, Osisioma Ngwa LGA. He described the decision as “painful but inevitable,” taken after deep personal reflection and consultation with his family.
“After we lost the 2023 elections, I expected a period of sober reflection and restructuring. But what followed was an alarming and unexplainable exodus of key figures from the party—people who had benefited enormously from PDP since 1999 were the first to flee. It was a mass hemorrhage,” he stated.
Ememanka, who voluntarily served as spokesman to the immediate past governor post-2023 election defeat, revealed that he had braced himself for opposition politics and committed to defending the Ikpeazu-led administration. However, the unending departures from the party both in Abia and nationally forced him to question his continued loyalty.
“I asked myself, am I Jesus Christ? Mbu Jesus? Okpara Chineke? Onye na-ebupu mmehie nke uwa? My answer in Olokoro tongue was simple – ODUGHU PLEASE!”
The former PDP stalwart emphasized that while he still has the passion and capacity to serve, remaining in PDP would be a political dead end. “I want to be in public service. I want to make impact. But I need a platform with direction,” he declared.
He paid glowing tributes to former Governor Ikpeazu, calling him “a man of peace with a good heart,” and acknowledged the opportunity he was given to serve as Chief Press Secretary for a full tenure—an unprecedented feat in Abia’s political history.
“This decision is not about Dr. Ikpeazu. He gave his best under difficult circumstances. My relationship with him is bigger than politics, and I will never speak ill of him,” Ememanka added.
Interestingly, while he didn’t reveal his next political move, he dropped a subtle hint about his admiration for the “deft political moves” of Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“Fingers crossed,” he teased, leaving political watchers guessing about a possible switch to the APC.
In conclusion, Ememanka declared:
“Awaalam! Ururu aja. Shadow this, Shadow that!” – a poetic way of saying “I’m done with the shadows; time to move forward.”
His resignation adds to the growing list of PDP loyalists who have walked away from the party, raising serious questions about its survival, structure, and leadership crisis.
