“Governor Fubara has replaced the Chairman of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Ohna Sergeant Chidi Awuse, with Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, citing exclusion of official photographs from the 2024 calendar and leadership issues.”
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has dismissed the chairman of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council (RSTRC) and paramount ruler of Emohua local government area, Eze Ohna Sergeant Chidi Awuse, for omitting the governor’s and deputy governor’s photos in the 2024 calendar. In his place, Governor Fubara appointed Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, the Paramount Ruler of the Apara Kingdom, as the new chairman.
The announcement was made during a special meeting with members of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday. Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, who hails from Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, will now lead the council.
Governor Fubara explained that the council’s 2024 calendar insulted the state government by deliberately excluding his and Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu’s photographs. This action, among others, showed the council’s leadership under Eze Awuse was not meeting expectations.
“I want the council to live up to its responsibility. From my observation, the council is moribund. So, I can feel that the council, for a while now, has been very inactive,” Governor Fubara stated. He emphasized the lack of effective leadership and the disrespect shown to his administration through the calendar’s omission.
Governor Fubara clarified that Eze Awuse’s tenure was terminated to ensure the council’s leadership is competent and diligent. He stressed that Eze Chike Worlu Wodo is the right person for the job, with the necessary integrity, character, and ability to unify and lead the council effectively.
The governor expressed confidence that Eze Wodo could engage all traditional rulers, secure their cooperation, and provide the necessary direction for the council’s progress. “Let me announce here that the new chairman from this particular moment will be Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, Eze Ohna Apara, Paramount Ruler of Apara Kingdom. He will be the chairman, Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, and I believe strongly that he is going to do better and accommodate everyone.”
In his acceptance speech, Eze Chike Worlu Wodo pledged to foster unity, devote his time and energy to his new role, and work in synergy with all council members to ensure peace within their domains. He assured that the council would collaborate with the state government to maintain harmony and fast-track the state’s development.
Governor Fubara’s decisive action underscores his commitment to ensuring that the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers operates effectively and respects the administration.
