Management of the Osun State University, Osogbo (UNIOSUN), has revealed why a final year student of the institution was shot and set ablaze.

A part time final year student of the department of Political Science, identified as Victor Oke, was on Saturday, December 11, attacked at the Akede area of the state capital.

Addressing the issue in a statement on Monday, the Public Relations Officer, UNIOSUN, Ademola Adesoji, said the student was attacked because he refused to join a cult group.

“We noticed that Victor was absent for his final paper in the afternoon and decided to contact his parents.

“It was later discovered that he was attacked by unknown cultists in the early hours of Saturday.

“Victor was shouting that he was not joining their cult group while they continued to hit him with cutlasses, hard stones and attempted to burn him, partially succeeding before he was eventually rescued.

“We have since been following up with the parents and it is confirmed that he was rushed to the university’s teaching hospital for treatment and later moved to an undisclosed hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.”

“The university security unit is currently working with the Police to ensure the culprits are exposed and brought to book. The cultists must be arrested”.
