Why Cop Shot Pregnant Lawyer – Police Witness Tells Court | READ IN FULL

A Lagos state High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa square on Monday, January 16, 2023 began trial of Drambi Vandi, a policeman who has now been suspended for the mur-der of a pregnant lawyer, Omobolanle Raheem.

At the commencement of trial, the police presented its first witness, Inspector Mathew Ahmen who was on a stop and search duty with the accused when the incident happened on December 25, 2022.

Recounting the day’s incident, the witness said Vandi who was the leader of the team, had noticed a vehicle approaching which he flagged down but the driver did not stop even when it approached the police officer.

“The next thing I heard was a gunshot and I looked back to see what was happening and I saw that a windscreen was falling.

“The next thing I saw again was a dark woman who jumped down from the vehicle and I heard her saying that ‘oga you have killed my sister.’ The woman held him and before I and Dimini (another officer on duty) could get to them, they had entered the car, locked it, and left.”

“Vandi entered the same vehicle and they drove him away; we did not know where they went to. While we were at the station, we saw that the DPO brought ASP Vandi to the station with the police patrol vehicle” the witness who has been in the police force since 2001 said.

Vandi is facing a one count charge of mu-rder before the court presided over by Justice Ibironke Harrison. He however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
