Abia State politics took a dramatic and revealing turn on Tuesday as former Minister of Mines and Steel Development and prominent APC chieftain, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, publicly declared that Governor Alex Otti deserves a second term in office, describing his performance as transformational and divinely guided.
Dr. Ogah made this stunning declaration after a closed-door meeting with Governor Otti at the governor’s country home in Nvosi, Isialangwa South Local Government Area, where he said he went to formally present New Year greetings but left with a renewed conviction about Abia’s future.
In what many observers see as a major political signal ahead of the 2027 general elections, the former APC governorship candidate said Governor Otti has already done enough within a short time to earn the trust and gratitude of Abians.
“I think he deserves a second term. I have said it times without number. God has used him to wipe away the tears of Abia people,” Ogah declared.
According to Dr. Ogah, the visible changes across Abia State in infrastructure, governance style, economic management, and public confidence — are clear proof that the state is on the right path.
He stressed that Governor Otti needs a second term to fully execute the long-term plans he has already laid out for the people of Abia.
“This is just a few years of governance and people can already see positive results. Abians are happy. They are grateful. He should be given the opportunity to complete what he has started,” Ogah added.
What makes Ogah’s endorsement more significant is that he remains one of the most influential APC figures in Abia State, having contested the governorship under the party’s platform in the past.
His open support for a Labour Party governor has already sent strong signals across political circles, with many interpreting it as a rare show of statesmanship over party lines.
Addressing speculations about his own political ambition, Dr. Ogah was emphatic that he has no personal ambition for Abia’s top seat in 2027.
Instead, he said his only ambition is to ensure the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Alex Otti, describing both leaders as critical to Nigeria’s stability and Abia’s progress.
“My ambition is to support President Tinubu for a second term and support Governor Otti to continue his good work in Abia,” he stated.
Dr. Ogah also described political alignments and declarations as normal in any democratic society, noting that opposition and ambition are part of the political marketplace, but the final decision rests with God and the people.
“At the end of the day, God and Abians will decide who governs them,” he concluded.
Political watchers believe Ogah’s endorsement may mark the beginning of a broader realignment ahead of 2027, especially as more APC stakeholders reassess their positions in light of Otti’s growing popularity.
For many Abians, the message is clear: performance is now speaking louder than party loyalty.
