Why APC Tickets Must Not Go To The Highest Bidders- Buhari | READ IN FULL

By Nancy Okafor:

The President, Muhammadu Buhari has advised the newly elected Senator Adamu Abdullahi-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to prioritize competence and ensure competent individuals emerges the party’s flag bearers for the 2023 general elections.

The President also enjoined the new NWC members to promote internal democracy and equal opportunities and ensure that party primaries are not influenced by “highest bidders” going into the 2023 elections

He said this while speaking late on Saturday, March 26, at the national convention of the APC, held at the Eagle Square, Abuja, President Buhari also called on members of APC to remain united and strong and also support the incoming leadership of the party.

He said: “This convention is coming at a crucial time when we prepare for another round of a general election. Therefore, the need to remain strong and united for the Party to exploit the rich and abundant potentials at its disposal cannot be overemphasized.

“We appreciate the right to hold different opinions and aspirations, however, such differences must not be to the detriment of the party.

“l passionately appeal to you all to support the incoming National Working Committee (NWC) to promote unity and avoid sentiments that are capable of causing disaffection and disunity.

“For those aspiring for party and public offices, your failure to realize such aspirations for Party offices or to fly the party’s flag, should not be a basis for a campaign of calumny against the party.

We should have the spirit of sportsmanship and always support the party to succeed.”

Meanwhile, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the newly elected officials of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

The presidential aspirant took to his official Twitter page and shared a tweet, to appreciate those who made the national convention a success and was also pleased to attend the event.

He wrote:”2022 APC NATIONAL CONVENTION Yesterday, I was pleased to attend the National Convention of our dear party, the All Progressives Congress. I congratulate the CECPC, the membership of the convention planning sub-committees and all others involved in planning and executing the event.”

Tinubu urged the newly elected officers to be ready to take on the role given and be ready to give their best in the discharge of their duties.

He Wrote: “I also congratulate all newly elected members of our new National Working Committee, led by Sen. Abdullahi Adamu. Be proud of your appointments but be, also, ready to work for you have much work to do.”

The former governor of Lagos state further urged the party faithful to work together to move the party to greater heights ahead of the 2023 general election.

He wrote: “Let us all, now, direct our focus on rallying behind our new NWC and move our party, the APC, towards a bright future, not just for our members but for all Nigerians as we continue to lead our nation, Nigeria, onwards to its manifest destiny.”
