Why Abia State LGA Workers Have Not Received Their Salaries Revealed
The Special Adviser (SA) on Media to the Governor of Abia State Ferdinand Ekeoma, has revealed that Local Government Treasurers are the reason why LGA workers have not received their salaries like other workers in the state.
Ekeoma who made this revelation in a publication he posted on his social media handle, stated that Abia State Government had requested that Local Government Treasurers provide their payment schedules, but unfortunately, the Treasurers refused to respond.
He further posited that they requested for the payment schedules due to infractions taking place in the LGAs, where workers are shortchanged with some paid half salary and so many other illegal deductions.

“On the payment of Local Government Workers, I explained that government had earlier requested the LG Treasurers to provide their payment schedules, unfortunately they refused.
“The request was premised on the discovery that majority of workers in the LGs were being shortchanged either by way of nonpayment of their salaries or by being paid half salary at the end of every month. Because there was no centralised and transparent payment process monitored by the state, those saddled with the responsibility of paying workers at the local government level resorted to all kinds of fraud including denial of salaries to those they do not like.
“The government also discovered that those in charge were using ghost workers to draw multiple salaries at the expense of genuine workers.
“On realising that the government wasn’t going to succumb to subtle blackmail and threat of protest, the LGAs have started cooperating. The government has therefore concluded plans to start paying LGA workers by Friday 14th July 2023.” He concluded.
Recall, that Governor Alex Chioma Otti OFR has since paid June 2023 salary and has equally approved the payment of backlog April 2023 salary.
