Why Abia Government May Be Hellbent On Conducting LGA Election | MUST READ
As the battle to conduct Abia State Local Government Election drags on, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain who wants to remain anonymous has revealed the reason behind the hellbent decision to hold the election even if it holds on the last day of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s tenure as governor.
Recall, that one Engr. Nwabueze Onwuneme had approached Abia State High Court in Arochukwu and obtained a restraining order stopping Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) and her Chairman Professor Mkpa Agu Mkpa from conducting any election until the matter before the court is resolved.
Unfortunately, since after the order was given, the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) Abia State chapter have been on strike, making it impossible for the judge to sit and decide on the merit or otherwise of the matter before the court.
Despite all the outcry against the LGA election by prominent Abians and the need for the out going government to channel their resources to the payment of Abia workers, information reaching ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER has it that the Abia State Government led by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu are still bent on conducting the election even if the election goes against the law.
Interacting with a PDP chieftain in Abia State, he alleged that the government is serious about conducting the election and that the governor and his kitchen cabinet do not care even if Abia State Governor-Elect Dr. Alex Chioma Otti OFR sacks all the elected chairmen and councilors on 29th of May.
“All this desperation is about retiring of funds already used without due process, they know that Otti will check the books and they are doing everything possible to retire all funds” he alleges.
Based on the information gathered by ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER, the government is already releasing funds to ABSIEC to conduct the LGA election few days to the expiration of the tenure of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu .
