Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor one of the counsels representing Nnamdi Kanu has countered Justice Nyako Binta’s adjournment on Kanu’s court case.
Justice Binta of the Federal High Court Abuja earlier today, November 10, adjourned the matter when she met a court room void of Kanu’s legal representatives.
According to Ejiofor the lawyers were in court on time and had already interacted with Nnamdi Kanu before they learnt that the DSS operatives were restricting some supporters of the leader of the IPOB.
The lawyers had stepped out to confront the operatives as justice Binta was yet to arrive the court room.
Speaking furiously to journalists outside the court room, Ejiofor stated that Kanu’s hearing which was adjourned to January 19 and 20, 2022 will not get to that date. He noted that they will do everything for the court to carry out their responsibility and hear the matter.
“The court came in and called up the case. It was the only case on the cause list. Ordinarily it is the practice that when lawyers are not in court and when you are aware that they were actually in court the court will naturally ask where are the lawyers and they will tell you” the lawyer explained
He said on the arrival of the judge, he would have been summoned to find out what was going on as the practice recommends.
“When we were told that the court was about to proceed, we now struggled to go inside and they locked is out. We were knocking on the door they locked us out” he added.
He described the act as travesty of justice, adding that Binta would have exonerated herself from the matter if she wasn’t comfortable.
“I can assure you today that this case will not get to January it must be heard.”
Ejiofor said the 7 count charges as amended against Kanu is empty and they have lost confidence in the court.
