Tension in Umuahia, Capital of Abia State, following protest by the transport tricycle (locally known as ‘Keke’) operators over the new policy to buy ticket online, high extortion of money by tax force operators and security officers intimidation.
The protesters caused serious gridlock for hours in the Umuahia metropolis, where they used their tricycles to block the roads.
AFNEWS reporter observed Keke passengers coming down from keke’s and walking to their destinations after being stuck in the gridlock.
The protesters carried placards with messages such as “NO MORE ONLINE TICKET, ” NO MORE POLICE BRUTALITY AND INTIMIDATION”
While Interacting with the operators, they called on the Government of Abia State to order and Ban online sales of ticket stating that it will waste their time and that many of their members lack the capacity to do that and most dont have android phones.
