UPDATE: Why FG Withdrew Order Mandating Universities To Reopen Revealed

The possible reason why the Federal Government changed it’s mind on universities reopening amid the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), have been revealed.

ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER had reported that the Federal Government on Monday, through the National Universities Commission (NUC), released a circular dated September 23, mandating vice-chancellors, pro-chancellors, and governing council to re-open federal universities.

However, the NUC issued another circular dated September 26, withdrawing the previous circular ordering the universities to reopen.

Speaking to Daily Post, a senior official in the Ministry of Education who pleaded anonymity said; “the circular was withdrawn to allow for more negotiation between government and the ASUU following the ongoing invention by the Speaker of the House of Representatives”.

Recall that the National Industrial court had ordered ASUU to call of the strike and return back to school pending when the suit before the court is determined. ASUU however refused the judgement and filed an appeal.
