Trump confirms U.S. could join Iran-Israel war and reveals Putin offered to mediate. The world is watching. Tap to read the full story.
President Donald J. Trump has stirred global tension with a bold declaration that the United States might “get involved” in the ongoing war between Iran and Israel, raising alarms over the potential escalation of the Middle East conflict into a global crisis.
In an off-camera interview with ABC News’ senior political correspondent Rachel Scott, President Trump revealed that although the U.S. is “not at this moment” involved militarily, he is keeping the option open should the conflict worsen.
“It’s possible we could get involved,” the President said, citing the need for continued diplomatic pressure on Iran over its nuclear weapons ambitions and regional aggression.
In a startling twist, Trump disclosed that Russian President Vladimir Putin recently reached out to him, offering to act as a mediator between the warring nations.
“He is ready. He called me about it. We had a long talk about it,” Trump said, adding that Putin is interested in helping de-escalate tensions.
The War So Far
Iran and Israel have exchanged massive aerial strikes for three consecutive days, with Israel launching attacks aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure, prompting retaliatory strikes from Tehran.
The violence has already claimed dozens of lives and threatens to destabilize the entire Middle East region. Civilian casualties are rising, and international calls for restraint have gone largely unheeded.
Diplomacy in Limbo
The Sultanate of Oman, which has long served as a discreet channel for nuclear diplomacy between the West and Iran, confirmed that a sixth round of U.S.-Iran nuclear talks scheduled for this weekend was abruptly cancelled due to the escalation.
Despite this, President Trump insists backchannel discussions are still ongoing.
“There’s no deadline. But they are talking. They continue to talk. They’d like to make a deal,” he said, suggesting that the current war could actually force Tehran back to the negotiating table.
Global Concerns Rise
President Trump’s comments, especially about U.S. military involvement and Putin’s role, have triggered sharp reactions across the international community. Critics warn that American involvement could spark a wider regional or global conflict, especially with Russia and China watching closely.
Foreign policy analysts are split over the possibility of Putin serving as a credible peace broker, given Russia’s own entanglement in the Ukraine war.
As the Middle East teeters on the edge, Trump’s candid remarks have added a new layer of uncertainty, raising the question: Will the U.S. step in—and what happens if it does?
