The city of Umuahia has been plunged into deep mourning following a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of 15 business people returning from a traditional marriage ceremony in Enugu State.
The victims were said to be travelling in a coaster bus when the vehicle was involved in a devastating head-on collision with a trailer along the Enugu route. The impact of the crash reportedly left no fewer than fifteen passengers dead at the scene, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Sources disclosed that the group had attended a traditional wedding ceremony in Enugu State on Saturday 14th Feb. 2026 and were on their way back to Umuahia when the fatal incident occurred. The sudden loss has sent shockwaves across the Abia business community, where many of the deceased were described as prominent and hardworking entrepreneurs.
Residents and sympathisers have continued to express grief over the heartbreaking development, describing it as a monumental loss not only to their families but to the broader Umuahia community.
As at the time of filing this report, authorities were yet to release an official statement detailing the cause of the accident. However, calls for stricter road safety enforcement and caution among drivers have intensified in the wake of the tragedy.
Families of the victims have begun mourning their loved ones, as friends and associates pray for strength to bear the irreparable loss.
The incident stands as another painful reminder of the dangers on Nigerian highways and the urgent need for improved road safety measures.
