The Kogi State Commissioner for Environment, Victor Adewale Omofaiye, on Sunday, barely escaped a kidnap operation with a gunshot injury.
Report says the attack occurred between Oke-Ijumu and Iyara in Ijumu Local Government Area, as the Commissioner was travelling to Lokoja at about 5:00 pm after attending events in his hometown Ekinrin Adde.
Omofaiye who escaped, sustained gunshot injury as the suspected kidnappers shot sporadically at his vehicle.
Other road travelers however fell victim as they were matched into the bush by the kidnappers.
The Commissioner who narrated the incident to a journalist with the state owned radio station, said gunmen numbering 20 surrounded him with guns.
Omofaiye explained that it took the quick Intervention of his orderly who whisked him away but he sustained gun shot on his leg.
A search party comprising of local vigilantes and hunters and the police, have been mobilized in pursuit of the attackers and their victims.
According to the Kogi state police public relations officer, DSP William Aya, the number of those kidnapped had yet to be ascertained, however, Omofaiye is in a stable condition.
