Taraba Under Siege: Herdsmen Launch Deadly Attack, Kill Many in Karim-Lamido

Fresh massacre rocks Taraba State as gunmen kill many in midnight raid. Governor vows justice, but tension remains high. Full disturbing details inside.

A fresh wave of violence has struck Taraba State, with many feared dead following a brutal midnight attack on two communities in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area. The coordinated assault, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, targeted Munga Lalau and Munga Doso villages, where gunmen believed to be armed herders unleashed mayhem—killing residents and burning their homes to ashes.

Witnesses say the attackers stormed the sleeping communities in the dead of night, shooting indiscriminately and setting homes on fire. The scale of destruction remains unclear, but local sources report multiple casualties and significant property damage.

The massacre is the latest in a series of bloody clashes between farmers and herders that have plagued the area in recent weeks. Just days ago, three people were killed in a similar attack in Bandawa community, which followed the murder of a local farmer by suspected herders.

Reacting to the incident, Governor Agbu Kefas described the attack as “horrendous and unacceptable,” promising that those responsible would “suffer great repercussions.”

In a statement issued by his media aide, Emmanuel Bello, the governor expressed deep concern over the spate of violence in Karim-Lamido LGA and assured residents that his administration was taking all necessary steps to restore order.

“Dr. Kefas also reiterated his commitment to continue to secure the state from external attacks and other forms of aggression,” the statement read.

The governor emphasized the need for greater cooperation between local communities and security operatives, calling for increased vigilance and intelligence sharing to forestall future attacks.

“The safety of the citizenry remains my main job,” Governor Kefas declared, adding that his government has prioritized security and will not rest until peace is restored in all parts of the state.

Kefas further stated that security agencies have been mobilized to the affected areas and that efforts were underway to prevent an escalation of the conflict.

“We will not allow Taraba to become a theatre of bloodshed,” the governor warned. “All those who think they can destabilize our communities with violence will be brought to justice.”

As tension simmers, residents of the affected communities are calling for urgent intervention from the federal government, warning that the killings, if unchecked, could spiral into full-blown ethnic conflict.

Meanwhile, humanitarian concerns are mounting as many villagers are said to have fled their homes into the surrounding bush, with women and children displaced and without food or shelter.

The attack has once again highlighted the fragile state of security in rural Taraba, where competition over land, grazing routes, and ethnic tensions continue to fuel deadly clashes.

The people of Taraba are now watching closely to see whether the government’s tough rhetoric will be backed with decisive action—or whether this will become just another statistic in Nigeria’s long list of unpunished communal tragedies.
