Viktor Gyokeres says no! Sporting CP striker turns down massive contract offer as Swedish star eyes Premier League transfer
Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres has turned down a massive €35 million-per-year salary offer from Saudi giants Al-Hilal.
WHAT HAPPENED?
According to Foot Mercato, Gyokeres has rejected a huge €35 million (£30m/$40m) annual salary offer from Al-Hilal. The Saudi Pro League club was prepared to pay Sporting up to €70 million (£59m/$80m) to sign the striker, but the Swedish forward wants to remain in Europe and is eyeing a Premier League move instead.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Sporting paid just €20m (£17m/$23m) to sign Gyokeres from Coventry City in 2023, but his value has skyrocketed after two incredible campaigns. Despite massive interest, Sporting insist on receiving as much as €100m (£84m/$114m) for their star player.
Clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and AC Milan are watching the situation closely. However, they may hesitate at the steep price-tag. Meanwhile, Al-Hilal are looking to splash cash again this summer after missing out on Victor Osimhen and continue to target elite names like Bernardo Silva and Darwin Nunez.
DID YOU KNOW?
The 27-year-old striker finished the 2024–25 Liga Portugal season as the league’s top scorer, with a remarkable 39 goals in 33 games. He also made a big impact in the Champions League, scoring six goals in eight matches. Despite Al-Hilal’s best efforts to lure him with a mega salary, his heart remains set on competing at the highest level in Europe.
WHAT NEXT?
Premier League clubs like Arsenal, United and Chelsea are weighing their options, though none have yet activated Gyokeres’ release clause. Al-Hilal could return with an even bigger offer, but with the player uninterested, they may shift attention to other targets.
