Soldiers from the Amphibious Training School (ATS) have manhandled and beaten an On-air-Personality, OAP/Journalist, Mr. Godpikin Victor Oton working with Correct 97.3 FM Calabar in Calabar, Cross River State capital.
AFNEWS gathered that the dreadful incident which occurred on Monday afternoon saw Godpikin aka Radio Governor, bleeding with bloodshot in his eyes.
The only offence of the OAP was that he was interviewing local government pensioners who had barricaded the Murtala Mohammed Highway by SUBEB office, opposite Flour Mills, Calabar and demanding payment of their 6 months backlog of pensions.
A reliable source disclosed that the soldiers came in a van to clear the road and thought the journalist was recording them.
“So, they ordered Godpikin to stop and surrender his gadgets but he refused. He pleaded that he was recording the voices of the senior citizens but the soldiers would hear none of the pleas and explanations. They pounced on him, slapped him, hit him and punched his eyes leading to much bleeding”, the source said.
Narrating his ordeal shortly after regaining his consciousness, Godpikin said, “I was on duty covering the pensioners’ protest when Army arrived in a truck and started collecting people’s phone and I refused giving mine.
