Social Media Regulation: Citizens Constitutional Privileges Should Not be Taken From Them – Gov. Ikpeazu

The Executive Governor of Abia State Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu said every constitutional rights and privileges of Nigerians should be upheld and not taken away from them .
The Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu stated this while reacting to the ongoing feedback of citizens concerning the Federal Government proposed plan to regulate the social media .
According to the statement of the Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu said “I have followed with keen interest developments surrounding the proposed regulation of the social media.”
” While I agree that the social media, just like any other medium can be subject to abuse, I totally support the freedom of expression by citizens as enshrined and guaranteed in our Constitution”
On what should be the guiding principles for everyone using the social media, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu said ” I strongly urge all to practise the principle of self regulation in their use of the social media in a way that will not lead to maligning, abusing, inciting anyone or spreading falsehood”.
