Award-winning singer, Simisola Kosoko aka Simi has revealed why creative women don’t get enough credit for their contribution in the industry.
In a recent interview, she said,
“Amongst the people that know the in’s and out, I don’t think that there is enough credit to women. It is very hard to get that acknowledgment as a woman because first of all many people don’t even expect that you are going to be good at that, because she is a woman how good can she really be, I mean she probably has an idea but how good can she be compared to the guys that are doing the same thing you know, and she is good and probably even better you know what I mean.”
The mother of one, who is married to Adekunle Gold said it is hard for females to get the deserved acknowledgment as a creative in the entertainment industry noting that it can be very exhausting.
“Because you are a woman they definitely undermine you and you have to work extra hard to get half the things the guys are getting and to be honest with you it gets exhausting sometimes especially when you’re speaking out and you’re asking and nothing is changing because it sounds like you’re complaining but you’re not, you just want what you deserve you know, it can be very exhausting,” she said.
The ‘Duduke’ singer further said she has reached a level of success that no one can undermine her achievements and abilities.
“By the grace of God I have gotten to a level of success and there are so many people that haven’t yet, they are still looking for their own wings. Who is going to speak for them? Who’s going to fight for them? because their voices are not as loud, they are strong but they don’t have as much access to people or to the kind of people that can change how things go and people think you are talking too much as long as you talk about something that makes them uncomfortable but if it is something they like or they agree with they are on that and like yeah but the moment is something they are not they are like it is okay.”
