Amid swirling rumours over the health of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has given Nigerians fresh assurance on the president’s condition.
Over the past few days, social media platforms have been flooded with claims suggesting that the president is critically ill, with some alleging he has been incapacitated. However, the Presidency has already dismissed these reports, stating that Tinubu is fully engaged in his duties and currently working from home.
In a video shared on his official Facebook page on Monday night, Senator Kalu disclosed that he personally spoke to the president just hours before releasing the statement.
“I spoke with him two hours ago and the president is in good shape,” Kalu said. “The president has made contact with some international partners and is preparing for a journey to Japan with a stopover in Brazil.”
The former Abia State governor emphasised that, just like any human being, the president is not immune to fatigue or temporary illness.
“Anybody can be tired. Like three days ago, I told my daughter that I was going upstairs to rest. Anybody can be sick or simply not feel like going out. I think the president just doesn’t feel like going out,” he explained.
Kalu urged politicians and political commentators to desist from spreading unverified information about the nation’s leader, stressing that the country’s focus should be on fixing the economy rather than fuelling baseless speculation.
“I want politicians to stop this rumour. We need to work together to face our economy,” he cautioned.
President Tinubu is reportedly scheduled to travel to Japan soon for official engagements, with a brief stopover in Brazil, further reinforcing the senator’s position that the president remains actively involved in governance.
