Senator Abba Moro Decries Lingering Killings In Benue State
Senator Patrick Abba Moro, has shown a deep concern over the killing happening in Benue State, saying that Insecurity has become a great issue in Benue State, several communities have been displaced, a lot have been maimed, and a lot of lives has been cut short.
The senator representing Benue South district made this disclosure on Wednesday in Abuja while interacting with the newsmen on about National Assembly leadership.
Abba Moro further lamented that communities are in a very traumatic situation, adding that the worst part of this situation is that nobody has “stopped those perpetrating these evil crimes, they came with powerful weapons and the security personnel were watching innocent people being killed.
“All these years that we’ve been talking about Fulani attacks, not even a single person has been arrested. Not even a single Fulani person has been deprived of the AK 47 that we’re talking about. The situation is so hopeless, so helpless communities are hopeless.
“For the rest of us who are concerned with the situation, we continue to make appeals to the government.”
Speaking on the controversies around the leadership post in the National assembly, he said whether the controversies are there or not, electing the principals of the National Assembly is a national issue.
Abba Moro further explained that It’s not because of the controversy that it has become a national issue, it has always been, citizens should know that when it comes to issues of democracy,
However, he said when It comes to voting of the leadership that he stands on the side of one man, one vote, also there are parliamentary procedures in the national assembly, “And under normal circumstances, the party with the majority numbers by all democratic processes all over the world nominates the leadership.”
“In the situation of Nigeria APC has majority in the Senate, however it should be the responsibility of APC to nominate who is going to be the senate president
“But in a situation where there are other candidates who disagree with the nominations of the party in the majority.
“An election in the National Assembly is conducted on the floors of the two chambers of the National Assembly on the day of inauguration.
“For other legislators who are elected for the purpose of deepening democracy and making a difference in the lives of people and other factors of deciding on who is represented and supported and is about electing someone that is competent.
“There are other dynamics that are involved with a sense of commitment, the ability to navigate the waters in the murky waters of politics in the National Assembly.
APC as a party is allocating positions to zones is unfair, and unjust not considering north central as part of the equation, adding that if anyone should be considered from north central it should be Senator Sani Musa,” Senator Abba Moro.
Meanwhile, the senator who is a member of PDP, also a minority in the 10th Senate, has his eyes for the post of minority Leadership, saying he has a vast experience when it comes to the affairs of legislators and government and that they are fifty members which constitutes the minority members.
