The Senate has postponed its proposed action on President Muhammadu Buhari refusing to assent to the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill 2021.
According to the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, the Chamber saw the need to postpone every action till January, 2022 to enable them consult with the House of Representatives who are currently on recess as required by constitution.
Lawan explained this after a closed door meeting with the Senators on Wednesday, December 22, 2021.
He added that part of their resolution was for members to consult with their constituencies who are critical stakeholders in the electoral process before further decisions will be made.
The senate had held a closed door meeting on Tuesday, after the president sent a letter explaining why he cannot assent to the bill.
