The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for Abia South Senatorial District, Chief Chris Nkwonta, has promised to sponsor a bill that will midwife the creation of a seaport in Akwatte, Ukwa East LGA, if elected next senator to represent the zone.
Chief Nkwonta who disclosed this to newsmen in an interview, queried why the incumbent senator failed to exploit the natural advantage endowed to the senatorial district with Akwaette closely located 45 nautical miles to the Atlantic Ocean.
Do you know that Akwaete in Ukwa East LGA, is 45 nautical miles to the Atlantic Ocean? Somebody should have strategically moved a Bill for the establishment of a Seaport in the area. If we get the Seaport, the multiplier effects in terms of infrastructure and job creation will be highly felt in Abia South.
“In other words, we shall be having vessels berthing with containers of goods which by sheer implications will positively but economically rejig and grow businesses in South East and South South”, Chief Nkwonta posited.
Chief Nkwonta, a shipping and oil magnet, further explained that his determination to contest the senatorial seat again is wholly propelled by his desire to serve and represent effectively the people of Abia South Senatorial District after 12 years of poor and abysmal representation by the incumbent.
“What is propelling me to contest again is nothing but my desire to serve the people of Abia South Senatorial District. For almost 12 years somebody has been on the saddle, you will agree to my assertion that nothing has changed. You will also allude to the fact that our people are complaining angrily as a result of obvious poor and abysmal performance by the incumbent senator.
“There are much we can get or attract from the federal government if we have a senator that cares for the people. We can secure jobs for our unemployed youths and graduates via purposeful and effective representation”, Chief Nkwonta said.
