United have been very poor in the Premier League and lost their 17th league game on Sunday when West Ham beat them 2-0 at Old Trafford, their 17th defeat under Amorim.

The Portuguese coach has struggled since replacing Erik ten Hag at the start of November 2024 and while his team have been excellent in the Europa League, where they will play the final against Tottenham Hotspur next week, their league form is worrying.

With two games two go, United are 16th on the table stuck on 39 points, and face tough final games against Chelsea and Aston Villa, who are chasing Champions League qualification, and Amorim is worried that his players do not care about the Premier League anymore and do not even fear losing.

“How a manager of Manchester United is supposed to feel in that position: embarrassed and it’s hard to accept,” Amorim told the media as per Dailymail when asked how he was feeling after the loss.

“Everybody has to think seriously about a lot of things here. We need to be really strong in the summer and be brave.

“We are losing the feeling of we are a massive club and it’s the end of the world to lose a game at home. I think that is the biggest concern in our club.”

The 40-year-old then dropped a hint over his future amid his team’s struggles, admitting he will be the first one to walk away if the same form extends into next season.

“It’s not the players fault. It’s my fault, I’m responsible. If we cannot change that really fast, we should give our place to different persons,” he added.

United face Tottenham in the Europa League final on May 21 in Bilbao and a win could add some silver lining on what has been a poor season but their coach feels otherwise.

“To be honest with you, I’m not concerned about the final. It’s by far the smallest problem in our club. We need to change something that is deeper than this,” said Amorim.

“We are showing that in the end of this season that we are not… Playing in the Premier League and Champions League for us is the moon. So we need to know that.

“I’m not concerned about the final. They will be focused and I don’t know what is best, if it’s playing in Champions League or not. So let’s think about Chelsea to improve a lot of things.”

United have a trip to Chelsea on Friday May 16 before they take on Tottenham in the Europa League final five days later.
