The Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio on Thursday, June 3, met with a former militant commander, Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
Tompolo had in a statement released on Sunday, May 30, given a 7-days ultimatum to the federal government to inaugurate the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) board, failure to do so, he threatened a total shutdown of oil facilities in the region.
Akpabio , who was earlier received at the Osubi airstrip in Warri by the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Kingsley Otuaro, moved on boat to meet with Tompolo at his Oporoza, Gbaramatu Kingdom country home in Delta State.
According to report, the minister’s unscheduled visit, was to appeal to Tompolo to down-play his earlier seven-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government to constitute a substantive board for the NDDC.
Meanwhile, the outcome of their meeting is yet to be made public.
