The Inspector-General of the Nigerian Police Force Alhaji Usman Alkali, has been called to as a matter of urgency, take steps to redeploy the Abia state commissioner’ of police Mrs. Janet Agbade as well as the Area commander in -charge of ABA Alhaji Kabiru Ibrahim, for their alleged failure to provide adequate security for residents of ABA the commercial nerve center of Abia state.

The call was made on Wednesday March 15 2022 by a concern group, ABA STAKE HOLDERS FORUM. In a statement signed by its President Chief Nwogu Chukwudi and Secretary Nwadibia Nwosu, the group which comprises representatives of ABA LANDLORDS, business men and women, residents and other sundry stakeholders, said under the watch of the duo of CP Agbade and Area commander Ibrahim, robbers, Street urchins, cultists and other criminal elements have taken over the commercial city, thereby making life difficult for residents.

According to them the police in Aba has been completely over whelmed by these criminal elements which it said are on hourly basis robbing, extorting and in some cases killing innocent citizens.

Particularly, the group alluded to the activities of a dreaded cultists organization known as the Aro which it stated has taken control of major streets of Aba terrorizing and robbing residents with the police looking as helpless as the defenseless residents, adding that they cannot continue to tolerate a situation where by those who are being paid with tax payers money continue to exhibit gross incapability in the face of a serious security challenge facing the city.

“For some time now, some criminal elements have been making life difficult for Aba people. These Aro cultists in particular have been robbing, extorting and killing innocent citizens, it has even gotten to a point that they will first of all write to inform their victims the day and time they will visit them., You can’t believe it, they will still come and finish operating without the police intervening. They will tell you not to bother to call the police because the police will not stop them. And it Will happen that way. The police will not come to your rescue no matter how ever you try to contact them. Now what is happening is that the residents of ABA have been paying tolls to these criminal elements to avoid being killed. On march 15 ,2022. a robbery incident took place at Nwalozie Street and lasted for over seven hours with the police not coming despite several distress calls to them. Again, on February 18 ,2022, along Port Harcourt Road a family man was gruesomely killed by the Aro Cultists for refusing to give them his handset on demand, and up till now, the perpetrators who are known both to the police and the public are yet to be apprehended and punished. There are many instances of the brazen criminal activities of these miscreants, which the police have turned blind eyes to.” the statement noted.
