RAY NKEMDIRIM FOUNDATION (Grand Finale): Winners Emerge From 2022 Abia Schools Quiz Competition

The search for the best three schools in the Abia state quiz competition for the year 2022 has come to a climax.

Grand finale winners, 2022 edition of Abia schools quiz Competition sponsored by Ray Nkemdirim Foundation

The grand finale of the Abia State Schools Quiz Competition (ASSQC) powered by Ray Nkemdirim Foundation held on Thursday, June 30, 2022 (the second edition) at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Umuahia, the state capital.
The competition kick started on June 1st at the Local Government and zonal level with all the 17 LGAs of the state being represented.

The grand finale was slugged out between; Victory College International (Aba South LGA); Adventist Technical Secondary School (Ohafia LGA); and The Master Vessels Classical Academy (Umuahia North LGA).

At the end of the rigorous competition, winners emerged thus;
Adventist Technical College – first position with 52 points.
The Master Vessels Classical Academy – second position with 42 points.
Victory College International – third position with 40 points.


Cash prize of one million naira (N1,000,000); five hundred thousand naira ( N500,000) and two hundred and fifty thousand naira (N250,000) was given to the winners respectively.

Also, teachers from the three schools who prepared the students got a cash prize according to the various positions won.
First position- N100,000
Second position – N75,000
Third position- N50,000.

Speaking at the event, chairman of the occasion, Prof. Godwin Emezue, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Abia State University Uturu (ABSU), lauded the participating students noting that it is not an easy task to get to the grand finale stage.

He encouraged them to continue studying, adding that “readers are leaders”.
Addressing the participants, founder of Ray Nkemdirim Foundation, Chief Ray Nkemdirim, MFR, noted that the schools quiz Competition is borne out of a vision to make Abia state better, adding that “education is the key”.


He admonished the students to look at the trajectory of his life and queue into it for a better future for themselves.

“You are the future we look forward to. You are the hope of this country that is why we are doing what we are doing” Nkemdirim told the students.
He encouraged all Abians to come together, put their resources together to move the youth for a better future.


Speaking to All Facts Newspaper, representatives of the schools; Okechukwu Clinton, Valentine Onyebuchi, and Akuma Fulfil expressed gratitude to the organizers of the competition, adding that they would do better in next competitions as they have noted areas they are lagging in.

Partners of the competition include; Secondary Education Management Board ( SEMB), National Association of private Proprietors (NAPPS), Abia state scholarship Board, Abia state Universal Basic Education Board ( ASUBEB), and FLO FM.
Highlight of the event include, cultural dance display by pupils of Our Lady of Mercy Nursery and Primary school, Umuahia, presentation of medals to students;
Presentation of a brand new laptop to Master Great Ijioma, one of the students of Mayfair Academy who won the first prize at the 2021 edition of the quiz competition. He scored 323 in 2022 JAMB, among others.
