President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given a major national security update, confirming the successful rescue of dozens of abducted citizens following coordinated operations across multiple states.
In an official statement on Tuesday, the President disclosed that all 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State were rescued after days of intensified efforts by security agencies. The rescue followed a wave of concern across the country after the victims were taken during a religious gathering.
Tinubu also announced the recovery of 51 out of the missing students abducted from a Catholic school in Niger State. The retrieval of the students marks what officials describe as a “major breakthrough” in ongoing counter-kidnapping operations in the North-central region.
The President noted that he cancelled his scheduled trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa to personally coordinate nationwide security efforts, receive real-time briefings from frontline commanders, and ensure that operations remained relentless.
According to him, the mission to protect Nigerians remains non-negotiable.
“Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety — and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people,” Tinubu said.
He emphasized that the rescue operations are ongoing and assured the public that security operatives are working tirelessly to ensure that every missing person is accounted for.
Security analysts believe the President’s public declaration signals a more hands-on approach to national security coordination, particularly with rising public pressure for improved safety.
The Presidency urged citizens to remain calm, stay vigilant, and continue sharing credible information that can aid security operations nationwide.
