PDP Reacts To Godwin Emefiele’s Alleged Presidential Campaign | READ IN FULL
Governors under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has kicked against the alleged interest of Godwin Emefiele, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, in the 2023 presidency.
Vehicles branded with Emefiele’s campaign posters to contest for presidency under the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), have been trending on the social media with Nigerians reacting differently.
Most Nigerians have called for Emefiele to resign as the CBN governor if he wants to delve into politics.
Reacting to the trend, PDP governors alleged that Emefiele ignored stabilizing the failing value of the Naira, rather injected billions into his alleged presidential ambition.
The governors in a statement issued by the Director-General of the PDP Governors Forum, Hon. C.I.D. Maduabum, blamed the president Muhammadu Buhari led administration of being unconcerned about the economy.
“It is even more surprising that Garba Shehu mentioned the value of the Naira. What can we say, there is no strategy, no concerted effort to stabilize the value of the Naira.
“How can there be a plan when the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, is openly running for the office of President, spending billions in television and newspaper advertisement and other costly engagements.
“This is being done under the nose of Mr. President. There can be no better evidence of government adrift, unconcerned and rudderless. Without care about how the economy runs. The sheer arrogance of being in such a sensitive office and running for President is quite outstanding” the statement read in part.
Meanwhile, Emefiele has maintained that he is only focused on improving the monetary policy of Nigeria and fight inflation.
“My focus at this time is a robust monetary policy and fighting inflation which is now a global problem, building a strong financial system in an increasingly uncertain global economy.
‘’Development finance and supporting farmers and manufacturers in our self-sufficiency and import substitution drive, raising N15 trillion for InfraCo infrastructure finance, building a world class international financial centre in Lagos, as we support the Muhammadu Buhari administration to finish strong,” the CBN governor wrote on his Twitter handle.
