The Abia State PDP has suspended Hon. Rowland Ceaser for openly supporting Governor Alex Otti. This follows the suspension of PDP BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara. Is the party in crisis? Read full details.
This appears to be a season of suspensions within the Abia State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the party continues to sanction members over alleged anti-party activities. Just days after the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, was suspended by the State Working Committee (SWC) in Abia, the party has now taken disciplinary action against Hon. Dennis Rowland Ceaser, the lawmaker representing Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly.
Ceaser’s suspension, announced by Orono Ward 7 PDP, stems from his open support for Governor Alex Otti, the Labour Party (LP) governor of Abia State, whom he has publicly praised for his development initiatives.
In a letter dated February 17, 2025, and signed by Ward Chairman, Mr. Ikechukwu Enemanna, and Ward Secretary, Mr. Ubani Munachimso, the PDP accused Hon. Rowland Ceaser of engaging in anti-party activities.
The letter stated:
“This decision was made based on your incessant anti-party activities. Recall that your attention was drawn to this issue last year, yet you failed to redress your steps and actions.”
The party leadership expressed its discontent with the lawmaker’s endorsement of Governor Otti, particularly his alleged assurance that the governor deserved a second term in office.
“There is no way you will be in our party and be supporting a governor that is not a member of our party to the extent of assuring him a second term,” the letter further read.
This latest suspension raises questions about the state of opposition politics in Abia. The PDP, which lost power to Governor Alex Otti in 2023, appears to be in internal turmoil, with some members seemingly aligning with the governor’s policies while others demand party loyalty.
Hon. Rowland Ceaser is yet to officially react to his suspension, leaving political analysts wondering whether he will fight back or defect to the ruling Labour Party (LP).
With the PDP BoT Chairman, Senator Wabara, also recently suspended which he has rejected and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party has equally rejected, many observers believe the party is undergoing a major internal crisis as it struggles to reposition itself in Abia State.
Will more PDP members face similar actions? Will Hon. Rowland Ceaser challenge his suspension? Stay tuned for updates!
