ELECTRICITY TARIFF: 5 Months After Lagos Woman Paid N15,000 Via Polaris Bank, No Token, No Reversal

A businesswoman in Lagos State paid N15,100 for an electricity token in December 2023. She has neither received the token nor got a reversal since then.

The woman, who does not want to be named, told The Press that she transferred the money on December 20 from her Polaris Bank business account to Quickteller to purchase a token for the Ikeja Electric (IKEDC) meter in her house.

“After completing this transaction, I didn’t receive the token. I contacted Quickteller the next day via phone call, and they told me to be patient for 24 hours,” she said.

“On December 23, 2023, I reached out to Quickteller again, and they confirmed that the transaction failed and they were going to issue a refund.”

Quickteller emailed her on January 21, 2024, to inform her that the N15,100 had been reversed. She was also advised to follow up with Polaris Bank.

“They sent evidence of this reversal and claimed to have been engaging Polaris Bank but to no avail,” the businesswoman told The Press .

“On January 24, I sent an email to Polaris Bank with the details of the transaction reversal reference that Quickteller sent to me.”

In response to her email that same day, Polaris Bank told her that her request had been channeled appropriately and feedback would be provided soon.

Since then, The Press learned, she has sent various emails to her bank requesting an update regarding the reversal, but the bank has not fulfilled their promise to get back to her.

“Quickteller has been following up with me every week since January 2024 to ask if Polaris Bank has refunded the money because they (Polaris) never responded to their (Quickteller’s) emails.

“N15,100 may be a small amount to anyone, but it isn’t to me. It’s my hard-earned money, and Polaris Bank needs to refund my money.”

When The Press emailed Polaris Bank on Monday, the bank said, “Please be informed that we have received your complaint, and it is being investigated. We will provide you with feedback within 72 working hours.”
