Abia State has taken another bold leap in technical education and youth empowerment as Governor Alex Otti’s administration welcomes an American-based global automotive institution to launch a state-wide advanced skills training programme covering all 17 local government areas.
The International Automotive Technical Academy Group, a renowned U.S.-based technical training organisation, arrived in Abia State to formalize a groundbreaking partnership with the Abia State Diaspora Commission. The initiative is designed to equip Abia youths with cutting-edge automotive repair and diagnostics skills that meet global standards.
The visiting delegation was received by the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Commission, Rev. Dr. Annie Onu, who described the collaboration as a transformational step that aligns perfectly with Governor Otti’s vision for a skilled, innovative and future-ready workforce.
According to Rev. Dr. Onu, the programme will expose Abia youths to modern vehicle diagnostics, hybrid and electric vehicle maintenance, mechatronics, and advanced repair techniques now dominating international automotive markets. She emphasized that the partnership reflects the government’s commitment to bridging skills gaps and connecting Abians to global opportunities.
Leader of the visiting team, Col. Chukwuemeka Golden Olunkwa, reaffirmed the academy’s mission, noting that the initiative is focused on transferring “world-class automotive technological skills to Abia youths, promoting innovation, and expanding career opportunities across the state.”
Training sessions, which will begin soon, will involve both classroom instruction and hands-on practical modules delivered by seasoned experts with international experience. Beneficiaries will be drawn from all 17 LGAs, ensuring equity and widespread impact.
For Abia State, this partnership marks a new chapter in human capital development, job creation and the modernization of the automotive sector. Observers say the initiative reinforces Governor Otti’s commitment to attracting global partnerships that deliver real value and empower young people with employable skills.
The CEO/ Executive Secretary abia state diaspora commission ( ADCOM), said the arrival of the academy’s delegation signals stronger international investment opportunities and engagement under the Otti administration — one that promises to reshape technical education and unlock new economic opportunities for thousands of Abia youths.
